ASTM A106 Grade B
TUSPIPE’s ASTM A106 Grade B steel pipes undergo the complete ASTM certification process, offering higher strength grades and suitability for more demanding temperature and pressure conditions. Rigorous quality management ensures consistent performance and long service life in industrial conveying systems.
ASTM A106 Grade B
ASTM A106 Grade B is a carbon steel pipe standard developed by the Société américaine des matériaux et des essais (ASTM). It is the most commonly used class in the ASTM A106 standard.
ASTM A106Grade B steel pipe is characterized by its excellent strength and toughness, as well as its stable performance under high temperature environmental conditions. It is widely used in the oil and gas, chemical, and power generation industries.
ASTM A106 Grade B Supply
- Outer Diameter Range: 10.3-1219mm. Grade B can produce large-diameter, thick-walled pipe suitable for submarine applications.
- Wall Thickness Range: 1.7-75mm
- Length: 6-18″ (customizable)
- Processing: Hot-rolled, normalized
- Testing: Wall thickness > 40mm requires a -29°C Charpy impact test.
- Applicable Environment: Operating temperature -45-450°C, in compliance with ISO 3183 oil and gas pipeline standards.

Types of ASTM A106 Grade B Pipes
-ASTM A106 Grade B Type C – Cold-Drawn Steel Pipe
ASTM A106 Grade B Type C steel pipe is a cold-drawn steel pipe. The cold drawing process can reduce the surface roughness of the steel pipe and improve the mechanical properties and dimensional accuracy of the steel pipe. Therefore, ASTM A106 Grade B Type C steel pipe is often used in precision machinery manufacturing and special industrial fields.
- ASTM A106 Grade B Type S – Seamless Pipe
ASTM A106 Grade B Type S steel pipe is a seamless steel pipe. The steel pipe manufactured by this process has uniform wall and can withstand pressure. It is often used in high-temperature and high-pressure environments such as the oil and gas industry.
- ASTM A106 Grade B Type E – Electric Resistance Welded Pipe
ASTM A106 Grade B Type E is a resistance welded steel pipe. Because of its high production efficiency and cost effectiveness, it is often widely used in general industrial and civil construction fields.

TEST & INSPECTION DURING ASTM A106 GRADE B PIPE PRODUCTION
- Chemical composition analysis– The chemical composition of steel is analyzed by spectral analysis instrument, including the content of carbon, sulfur, manganese, etc.
- Dimensional inspection– The wall thickness, length, inner and outer diameter of the pipe are measured.
- Mechanical properties testing– covers tensile testing, yield testing, impact testing, etc. Evaluate the hardness and toughness of the steel pipe.
- Essais non destructifs– such as ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, eddy current testing, etc. Check whether there are cracks and other defects inside and outside the pipeline.
- Pressure test– Static or dynamic pressure test of the pipeline to assess its ability to withstand pressure under design pressure.
TYPE OF ASTM A106 GRADE B PIPE ENDS
- Plain End is the simplest form. No machining or shape modification required. It joins pipes by a welding process.
- Beveled End The Angle is generally 30° or 45°. The two pipes are welded to a V beveled end.
- Threaded End is commonly used for threaded connections. Common thread standards include NPT (American standard thread), BSP (British standard thread), etc., suitable for occasions that require frequent disassembly.

ASTM A106 Grade B marking content should include the following:
- ASTM A106 Grade B Piping material identification
- ASTM A106 standard number
- ASTM A106 Produces manufacturer identification
- Dimensions and wall thickness identification
