JCOE Forming of Steel Pipe

JCOE is the main forming method for LSAW (straight seam submerged arc welded) pipe. The JCOE pipe manufacturing process adopts step-by-step forming, whereby the steel plate is bent into a pipe shape through multiple stamping. The whole process is divided into three stages: J forming, C forming, and O forming.

Jcoe process can become an important technology for modern steel pipe manufacturing because of its unique advantages of simple production process, high efficiency and low cost. The manufacturing process of a JCOE pipeline has several elaborate steps and has a significant impact on the performance and quality of the pipeline product.

  1. Preparation before pipe making: Material inspection and quality assessment of the selected steel plate are carried out in advance, and various parameters in the JCOE forming process are determined, such as pre-bending radius, forming roll gap, etc., to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  2. Steel plate cutting and roll forming: The steel plate is cut to the appropriate size and pre-pressed and pre-bent by the rolling machine to form the preliminary semi-finished pipe shape.
  3. Pre-bending and seam welding: A pre-bending machine is used to pre-bend the edge of the steel plate to form the initial shape. Then a long weld is formed.
  4. JCO molding: Follows the order of J-C-O type. The welded steel plate is stamped step by step by forming a machine and pressed into a “J” shape to form one side; Then press into a “C” shape to form the second side; Then press into an “O” shape to form a complete pipe.
  5. Cold shrink molding: Cold shrink treatment to reduce the residual stress of the pipeline, and improve the strength and toughness of the pipeline.
  6. Final welding and inspection: End welding is performed to ensure pipe integrity and tightness. Non-destructive testing techniques such as ultrasonic, X-ray, or magnetic powder are used to detect the pipeline.
  7. Quality control and safety management: Strictly control the process and specifications of the execution of the manufacturing process steps to ensure the consistency of the pipeline. Conduct safety training and management for production equipment and operators.
