ASTM A106 Grade C

ASTM A106 Grade A

ASTM A106 Grade A is a low carbon seamless steel pipe standard. It is specially designed for general industrial piping suitable for low and medium temperature conditions.

ASTM A106 Grade A is generally manufactured by hot rolling or cold drawing processes. Large diameter and wall thickness pipes are produced by hot rolling process. The cold drawing process produces tubes with small diameters and thin wall thickness. In order to ensure the quality and performance of the final pipe produced, the heat treatment, cooling conditions and quality testing during the manufacturing process are particularly important.

A106 GRADE A PIPES

- ASTM A106 Grade A Type S – Seamless Pipe

TEST & INSPECTION DURING ASTM A106 GRADE A PIPE PRODUCTION

  • Chemical analysis– Samples are taken from the billet and the percentage of carbon, sulfur, and manganese content of the sample is tested using chemical analysis instruments (such as spectrometers) to ensure compliance with the chemical composition requirements of ASTM A106 Grade A.
  • Tensile test– Test with tensile testing machine to ensure compliance with standard requirements. In general, the yield strength is not less than 30,000 psi, the tensile strength is not less than 48,000 psi, and the elongation is not less than 30%.
  • Impact test– The impact testing machine is used for impact testing, and its impact resistance is assessed according to the impact energy absorbed by the sample at low temperature, whether it can ensure the safety in engineering applications.
  • Ultrasonic inspection (UT)– Ultrasonic probes are usually used along the surface of the pipeline to detect whether there are cracks inside and outside the pipeline, as well as corrosion and other defects.
  • Magnetic powder detection (MT)– The use of magnetic powder to detect the surface of the pipeline, whether there are cracks, and small defects, to ensure the quality and safety of the pipeline.

TYPE OF ASTM A106 GRADE A PIPE ENDS

  • The Plain End is raw. Suitable for field welding, connected with accessories.
  • Threaded End is threaded into internal or external thread on the pipe end. It is suitable for pipeline systems that require high sealing performance and need frequent disassembly and installation.
  • Beveled End and capped welded pipe fittings. Suitable for high strength and tight piping systems.
