ASTM A500 Grade A
TUSPIPE offers ASTM A500 Grade A structural tubes that follow strict A500 standard requirements. Customers receive lightweight, reliable tubing suitable for everyday structural applications with guaranteed quality.
ASTM A500 Grade A
The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) A500 steel grade is most commonly used in structural applications. This steel grade covers cold-formed welded and seamless carbon steel pipes used for construction purposes.
ASTM A500 Grade A is the lowest steel grade in ASTM A500 standard, and therefore it is the most common steel grade used in structural applications. It has good weldability and formability properties, as well as excellent strength properties. In addition, Grade A pipe is also suitable for high-temperature applications. For these reasons, Grade A is the steel grade of choice for many structural applications.
Why choose tuspipe?
Since 1998, Tianjin United Steel Piping Co., Ltd (TUSPIPE) has been committed to supplying high-quality line pipes.
With over 500,000 tons annual production capacity, the company serves various fields and industries, such as oil & gas exploitation and transmission, ship & auto-building, water & electricity, environmental protection, mechanical engineering, infrastructure construction and etc.
TUSPIPE places a premium on product quality and rigorous product quality control. In order to maintain good product quality, the company has established a Test & Inspection Center since 2004. With a series of state-of-the-art tests and inspection equipment, the test & inspection center is able to perform the tensile tests, hydro tests, impact tests, DWTT, etc.
ASTM A500 Grade A Square & Rectangle Tubing
The physical parameters necessary to fulfill the three classes of ASTM A500 Grade A square, rectangle, and special shaped tubing are listed below. A flattening test is not a standard requirement for A500 Grade A non-round tubing.
| Grade | Yield (min) | Tensile (min) | Elongation (min) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gr. A | 39,000 psi | 45,000 psi | Determined by wall |
ASTM A500 Grade A Round Tubing
Below are the physical properties required to meet the three grades that we produce ASTM A500 Grade A round tubing. A flattening test is also a standard requirement for round tubing produced to the A500 Grade A.
| Grade | Yield(min) | Tensile (min) | Elongation (min) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gr. A | 33,000 psi | 45,000 psi | Determined by wall |
Chemical Requirements of ASTM A500 Grade A

Dimensions of ASTM A500 Grade A
Outside Diameter Specification:
- Round Tubes: Maximum outside diameter is 2235mm (88 inches) or less.
- Square/Rectangular Tubes: Measured at the 2-inch section, it should not deviate from the convexity/concavity tolerance.
Wall Thickness Specification:
- Maximum wall thickness should not exceed 25.4 mm (1 inch)
- The maximum wall thickness of welded tubing should not exceed 10% of the required wall thickness, excluding the weld seam.
Length Specification:
- Structural tubing may be in random/multiple/special lengths, compliance with length tolerance is required for specific lengths.
Straightness Specification:
- Permissible variation is 1/8 inch per foot.
Squareness of Sides Specification:
- Adjacent sides must be square (90°), with a maximum deviation of 62° permitted.
Outer Corner Radius Specification:
- Each outer corner radius should not exceed three times the required wall thickness.
Twist Specification:
- Adhere to the specified twist tolerances.
- Twist measurements should not be taken within two inches of the tubing’s ends.
