The galvanized steel pipe undergoes one more process after production. It involves coating the pipe with zinc using the hot-dipping method, then checking the coat’s balance and consistency.

Carbon steel pipe is very strong and performs well under high-pressure conditions. The oil pipelines and structures rely on this pipe’s strength. However, the pipe corrodes fast in the presence of water and air.

The zinc coating on the galvanized steel pipe prevents corrosion. Therefore, the pipe can be used in wet or open-air situations. However, the tensile strength of the galvanized steel pipe is not higher than that of the carbon steel pipe.

Applications

In high-pressure systems like oil and gas pipelines and bridges, carbon steel pipes perform admirably. Builders also use it in buildings and heavy equipment frames.

Chemical transportation and water supply lines are better suitable for galvanized steel pipes. Marine, shipbuilding, and outdoor projects use this pipe due to its corrosion resistance.

Cost and Maintenance

Carbon steel pipe is relatively cheaper as it does not have any protective coating. The cost of maintenance increases due to corrosion and wear.

Galvanized steel pipe incurs an extra cost due to its zinc coating. However, the cost of maintenance remains low as its lifespan increases.
