Advice and answers from the Tuspipe Team

Pipe Schedule

Pipe Schedule is the core standard system to characterize the wall thickness grade of industrial pipes, through the number (such as SCH 40/80) to define the standardized wall thickness requirements under different pressure conditions.

Pipe Schedule - Standard System and Classification

  • American Standard System (ASME B36.10):

SCH 5S~SCH XXS (Stainless Steel Pipe)

SCH 10~SCH 160 (Carbon Steel Pipe)

Series 1 (Light Duty) to Series 4 (Heavy Duty)

  • Special Specification:

SCH STD (Standard Wall Thickness)

SCH XS (Thick Wall Thickness)

Wall Thickness Calculation Formula: t = P×D/( 2S x E + P x Y)

(P = design pressure, D = external diameter, S = permissible stress, E = weld factor, Y = material factor)
